Vivo is a technology leader when it comes to innovative biometric security and they released their V11 model smartphone late last year. In my previous article, I shared about learning the Vivo V11 at SITEX Singapore. The phone is what they’ve described and as impressive as the day I first learnt about it.

V11 can be deemed as a mid-range phone, similar to Asus ZenFone 5, Honor 10 and Nokia 7. But as a mid-tier smartphone, V11 is relatively pleasing to use. I’ll talk more about it as we get into the specifics.
With new Halo FullView Display paired with fusion colours and an in-display fingerprint scanner, the V11 looks very futuristic. However, for a company that strives to be innovative, I’m not sure why they stick with a micro-USB.
We are 2019 and micro-USB is so 2016. Come on, Vivo, what’s going on there? It’s just a minor detail and it doesn’t affect me that much. But it does give it a less innovative feel to it. Other than that, I do enjoy gaming on this phone for its screen. It’s pretty wide and thanks to way Vivo designed this phone, the front camera doesn’t get in the way of the gameplay.
Moving on, V11 comes in 2 colours, Nebula and Starry Night. I got the Nebula and it looks pretty rad. I really like how the colours come together, especially when you’re viewing it from below. If you’re a fan of beautiful colours, you’ll appreciate V11.
One thing to note though… It’s made out of a plasticky material which feels (kind of) cheap and leaves a lot of fingerprints. On the flipside, it makes the phone a lot lighter (156 grams) than most smartphones.
The Vivo V11 is the first model in the V series to incorporate In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology, which eliminates the visible fingerprint pad to create a seamless design from front to back. It’s pretty dope because you can even customise the effects.
V11 comes with 3400mAh battery and Dual-Engine Fast Charging which makes it pretty decent for all you impatient users. I played a couple of Rules Of Survival games since it’s pretty graphics intensive. So far, so good… only 23% went down after 1.5hours of non-stop gaming. *
I remember being at the SITEX booth and being blown away by the AI Camera and Scene Recognition. When I came home, I realised my sister’s Huawei Mate 2.0 has similar functions so it’s not such a unique feature. However, for its price, V11 definitely wins in its AI features such as AI Backlighting HDR, AI Low Light Mode & AI Portrait Framing.
There are a lot of different camera modes for you to play and experiment with such as Group Selfie, which is the selfie version of a panorama angle, and Professional Mode where you can adjust the white balance, focus, etc. If you’re into photography, then V11 is the one for you.
I absolutely love the AR stickers on the V11. It’s like if the Snow App and iPhone had a camera baby, the product would be V11’s AR Stickers. Don’t know what stickers I’m talking about? Here are some examples.
Trust me, you’ll spend a lot of time having fun with these adorable stickers. Plus, it’s a definite way to make friends and be the life of the party.
One thing I dislike about V11’s camera is the AI Face Beauty mode. It still gives your selfies that very Android-feel. Like, when you look at it, you know that it’s taken using anything but an iPhone.
My advice? Don’t over-do-it with the filters, unless you’re going for that Korean K-Pop/cuteness vibe. If that’s what you’re going for… you do ‘you’.
Another notable mention is the Google Lens. There are so many times where I wanted to Google something I see but don’t know the name of it. I find this function extremely useful and I think you would too. Kudos to Vivo for this smart implementation.
Alright, so far so good but how well does it handle games? Well, V11 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE CPU and if you have no idea what that is, it’s fine. It basically means V11 is able to support high-performance on-device artificial intelligence, advanced photography and enhanced gaming.
There’s even a Game Mode where you can customise the notifications you see. You know how annoying it can get when you’re in the middle of a killing spree on PUBG and notifications keep popping up? Or even worse, someone calls you? With Game Mode, you won’t see all these distractions and can play your games in peace.
But if you miss out your girlfriend’s messages or calls, well… good luck to you.
The graphics are great! Other than the usual minor lags in Rules Of Survival (Ultra mode settings), the screen really showcases the depth in colours. Playing a cinematic game like Infinity V on V11 was not a disappointment.
Couple the great graphics and Halo FullView Display, you’ll enjoy any type of game on the V11.
Why should one buy
After much thoughts, I’d say Vivo V11 is for someone who wants an affordable (mid-tier) phone with more than average camera abilities.
The winning factor of V11 is the AI camera features. So, if you see yourself using the camera a lot, this is worth a try. You get to take sharper photos in any lighting. But like I said, take it easy on the filters.
